I have been using gaming chairs for office purposes since 2019. Over the years, I’ve tried quite a few different models and would like to share my insights to help you choose the perfect gaming chair. I’ve noticed that there aren’t many good guides on the internet specifically for Indian users. Let’s get started:
In my opinion, the following criteria define a good chair:
- Build quality: A well-built chair not only ensures durability but also provides the necessary support for long hours of use. Look for chairs made with high-quality materials such as sturdy metal frames and dense foam padding. The stitching should be robust, and the chair should feel solid and stable, without any wobbling or creaking. Additionally, consider the quality of the wheels and the base, as these components endure a lot of wear and tear. Investing in a chair with excellent build quality will save you money in the long run, as it will last longer and provide better comfort and support.
- Sitting Position and Comfort: The sitting position and comfort of a gaming chair are crucial for maintaining good posture and preventing discomfort during extended use. A good chair should offer adjustable features such as height, armrests, and reclining angles to accommodate different body types and preferences. Look for chairs with ergonomic designs that provide adequate lumbar and neck support, as these are essential for preventing strain on your back and neck. The seat should be well-cushioned and spacious enough to allow you to sit comfortably without feeling cramped. Breathable materials, such as mesh or high-quality leather, can also enhance comfort by keeping you cool and preventing sweat build-up. Prioritizing sitting position and comfort will ensure you can work or game for long periods without discomfort or fatigue.
- Price to quality ratio: When investing in a gaming chair, the price to quality ratio is a key consideration. A higher price doesn’t always guarantee better quality, and it’s essential to find a chair that offers the best value for your money. Evaluate the features, materials, and overall construction of the chair in relation to its cost. Look for chairs that provide a good balance of durability, comfort, and design without breaking the bank. It’s also helpful to read reviews and compare different models to ensure you’re getting the most for your investment. A chair with an excellent price to quality ratio will meet your needs without exceeding your budget, ensuring you get the best possible value.
Now that we have our parameters set, let us review the first gaming chair that I bought in 2019
Circle Gaming CH80 Red All Moulded Foam with 4D ARM Rest Having PU + PVC Cover
I bought this with Rs.20,450. Here is its current condition:
It may look battle-scarred, but it has traveled with me from Kolkata to Mysore, then Bangalore, and back to Kolkata, serving me well throughout the COVID pandemic.
The straps have loosened, but the rest of the chair is still in good condition. The cushioning and armrests remain sturdy, and the chair wheels are still smooth.
As a 6-foot-tall individual, this chair helps me maintain a straight sitting posture and provides excellent back and neck support. However, it doesn’t allow for sitting with legs folded, which is beneficial for promoting proper posture.
Overall, this chair boasts excellent build quality, promotes good posture, and offers great back and neck support. If you’re looking for a chair in the 15-20k rupee range, this is a solid choice.
Since my first chair was a great buy, I got carried away and bought a
Gamdias Aphrodite MF1 L Black/Red Gaming Chair – Rs.23,363
Here is its current condition:
Buying this chair was a huge mistake. I bought this in 2020 and since then, it have give me a lot of problems:
Seat Tilt:
- The seat has tilted to the left, indicating poor build quality and durability issues.
Assembly Issues:
- Upon arrival, several screws and parts did not fit correctly, highlighting problems with the production and quality control.
Material Durability:
- The seat material has deteriorated significantly, with the seat completely torn and a metal wire protruding from the right side.
- This indicates low-quality materials and poor durability.
Comfort Issues:
- The chair provides an uncomfortable sitting position with inadequate back support, making it unsuitable for long periods of use.
Purchasing this gaming chair made me reconsider my priorities when buying a gaming chair. This chair significantly worsened my posture and back health. As a result, my next chair purchase might have been an over-correction to address these issues.
Having experienced the drawbacks of poor-quality gaming chairs, I decided to invest in a high-quality chair. Here is my third chair:
Razer Iskur – Gaming Chair with Built-in Lumbar Support – ~34K INR
This is truly the best chair I have ever used. The seat is firm yet comfortable, providing excellent support. The standout feature is the adjustable lumbar support, which is crucial for maintaining good posture and preventing back pain. The build quality is exceptional, and although it is on the pricier side, it is well worth the investment for the comfort and durability it offers.
Key features include:
- Built-in Lumbar Support: The Razer Iskur features an ergonomic lumbar support system that provides excellent lower back support, crucial for long gaming sessions.
- High-Density Foam Cushions: The seat is made with high-density foam cushions that contour to your body’s shape, offering both firmness and comfort.
- Multi-Layered Synthetic Leather: The chair is covered in durable multi-layered synthetic leather, which not only adds to its premium feel but also enhances its durability.
- 4D Armrests: The armrests can be adjusted in four directions (up/down, forward/backward, left/right, and rotational), allowing for a personalized fit.
- Reclining Feature: The chair can recline up to 139 degrees, providing flexibility and comfort for various activities, from gaming to relaxing.
Conclusion:
When choosing a gaming chair, prioritize the following:
- Adjustable Lumbar Support: This feature is crucial for maintaining proper posture and preventing back pain during long gaming sessions.
- Build Quality and Material: Ensure the chair is made from durable materials and has a sturdy build to last through extended use.
Based on my experience:
- Circle Gaming CH80: A good budget-friendly option that offers decent comfort and support.
- Razer Iskur: For a premium experience, this chair excels with its exceptional ergonomic design and high-quality materials.
